This post is going to discuss the fear of going for something you want to do, but you consider risky.
For example, imagine that you live with your parents, but you want to move out. You have never lived by yourself, but you really want to do it because you know that this is required for you to become independent. So what do you do? Do you go for it? Or do you listen to the voices in your head, which are doing their best to convince you that things are best the way they are? And after all, what something terrible were to happen?
Now this is my favorite part. What is the worst that could happen? You aren't going to war, are you? You aren't jumping off a cliff in the stormy sea either. You are simply doing something, which you have never done before. But many other people have done it already, so you won't be the first one. True, many people tried to be independent, but they failed. However, none of them died as a result of failing.
Life is interesting in the sense that very few of us like failure. Actually, are there any people who like failure? Yes, these are the enlightened few, who know that failure leads to success. As long as you can get up after you have fallen you will be fine. True, you might fail again, but this failure doesn't have to be a negative experience. It all depends on your mental attitude.
Finally, the reason I wrote this post is that I am considering taking a job in a new field and with unguaranteed income and success. I might fail, so the natural protection mechanism kicks in and tells me that I should stick to where I am and what I have. But actually I really want to go for this challenge. The more I think about it, the more I want to go for it. So do I even need to tell you what I am going to do?
