Hello friends!
Today we continue our journey in the world of the wealthiest men of all time. I must admit that yesterday's guest was not that inspiring, and nor is today's guest. But we will take a look at him anyways. So our guest today is another American - his name is William Henry Vanderbilt and he is the fourth richest man of all time. His business was railways and he inherited a certain amount from his father Cornelius Vanderbilt and doubled it in nine years. Impressive, you must admit, having in mind that the amount doubled was $240 billion in contemporary money. Pretty good in the sense of money-making!
But how about as a human being, how was Vanderbilt? First, let's read about him here to find out his biography. And then, let's take a look at this quotation he said:
The public be damned!
This is what Vanderbilt said on whether the public should be consulted about luxury trains. Pretty inconsiderate of him, right? Well, not too good, I agree. But he still remains the fourth richest man of all time. In the end I would like to share with you a few more interesting facts about him. Vanderbilt was a good philanthropist, although you might not expect that of him after his remark above. Also, he was also self-admittedly not happy about his riches, as he said that they gave him multiplied worries. But what could he do, he was the fourth richest man in history and he passed away at the young age of 64...
So, let's hope that tomorrow brings us a better example to follow. Have a great day!
