But why did he ban exactly beards? Well, let's start from here. Nothing to offend people with beards, but preserving basic sanitary conditions is hard having a beard. Especially in the times when there was no shower, etc...
I am sure that Peter the Great was an important person to organize and modernize Russia. And although people with beards might be offended by his actions, all other Russians should be grateful.
