Today is the second day of the month of September. In 1945 on this day was put the official end of the Second World War in the Pacific Basin. The Japanese Emperor signed the instrument of surrender on the battleship Missouri and thus a new chapter was started in the development of his country. You can read more about this event here.
Although we might not be Japanese or American, we should be thankful for the end of this war, which started the postwar era of prosperity, of which we are benefiting up till the present day.
